After renowned actor Arthur Leander tragically collapses during a performance of King Lear, and as news of a fast-acting sickness begins to spread, Jeevan Chaudhary meets young, stranded actress Kirsten Raymonde. Soon, both are faced with a life-changing decision.

Kirsten and her "Year Twenty" family, a Shakespearean troupe called the Traveling Symphony, arrive in St. Deborah-by-the-Water. While their return to the city offers a mix of highs and lows among troupe members, a mysterious man sets off warning bells for Kirsten.

With her business trip to Malaysia upended by the outbreak, Miranda Carroll reflects on past relationships with Arthur and Dr. Eleven – and the cost of both on her life. Then, an unexpected chance at survival sends Miranda on a dangerous journey outside the safety of her hotel.

After the Traveling Symphony splits up for the first time in years, Kirsten and the rest of the actors set off to reunite with a former troupe member. But as they begin to unravel the mystery of the Prophet, a much grimmer truth is revealed.

Tasked with bringing his friend's body home, Clark Thompson is surprised to find he's on the same flight as Arthur's ex-wife Elizabeth and son Tyler. But when the plane is diverted to Severn City, Michigan, the now stranded travelers must confront their new reality.

As the Traveling Symphony mourns a devastating loss, a determined Kirsten leaves them behind to track down the Prophet. Meanwhile, the Conductor accepts an invitation on behalf of the rest of the troupe that comes at a grave cost.

Kirsten travels back to the apartment she once shared with Jeevan and Frank to finally confront the source of her deepest trauma.

Shortly after reuniting with the Traveling Symphony in Severn City, Kirsten grows increasingly concerned over the conditions of their stay. Meanwhile, Kirsten’s travel companion prompts a long-brewing family conflict to finally bubble to the surface.

After surviving their first winter in the "new" world, an argument with Kirsten sends Jeevan down an unexpected path that will ultimately dictate the rest of his life.

While Kirsten enacts a plan to free the Traveling Symphony once and for all, the Prophet has a final reckoning with Elizabeth and Clark -- and Miranda gambles with the lives of strangers.
