i really wanted to like this show because it is the genre i usually like. unfortunately it was almost unwatchable. i should have known early on, when it seemed like all the fathers were the same character, shouting at their daughters, and all the teenages were ridiculously stereotyped and unbelievable. not to mention racial profiling - why is the one sexy girl latin? why is the christian girl a white blonde chick?
anyway, i gave it a chance, because sometimes shows take a little time to get better after the pilot. after watching 6 episodes i am now abandoning ship before my brain gets muddled by any more non-sense. i watched the season 1 finale just to get closure on the whole thing because the description said there would be flashbacks on how she got involved with ricky in the first place, but there were only a few scenes about that and not nearly the kind of details that would have made an interesting episode.
summary of the reasons i find this show to be ridiculous:
- bad acting (unnatural pauses, character traits like amy biting her lip that get really annoying after just a few times.)
- bad writing (terrible dialogue, boring situations, when given the chance they show the most boring part of the things that happen instead of the most interesting)
- music is like an after school special
- indoor set lighting that looks fake
- stereotypical characters
- unrealistic portrayal of birth (that baby looked like it was 3 months old. and why did her mother keep leaving her side to go out to the lobby at the hospital? when someone's in labor, you stay by their side the whole time. and why didn't her mother mandate she take a birth class? in addition, there is no way she could have eaten a burger before the birth. they tell you to only eat light foods and not to eat very much. on the off chance that you have to get a c-section and they need to use drugs that do not react well with food. the list goes on but i'll stop there. ugh.)
