Agreed A.S. – it’s not very funny. Then again, I’m not a fan of any of MacFarlane’s Family Guy clones.I did really like the “classic” Family Guy, however. Most of the episodes before the series was cancelled were pretty funny.
When it came back… I don’t know, it just lost something. It’s like they ran out of good jokes very quickly and just started recycling the same types of material over and over again. There’s only so many times you can see the exact same formula – Plot, random comparison with flashback, plot, cut to song that keeps going long past when it stopped being funny, repeat – before it starts getting really old. Did you see that episode, I believe it was last season, where Peter made a Conway Twitty reference and they cut to him singing on Hee-Haw (or something like that)? It was a funny reference… but then 3 minutes later, you’re thinking: “Are they seriously going to play this entire song?” And they did. It’s really bad when you are so out of material in a 21 minute show that you throw in a good 3 minute clip that looses its “funny” value very quickly, and expect the audience not to notice. Then again, I guess the typical person who thinks any of these clones are hilarious wouldn’t notice…That said, all 3 shows are watchable, I’ll give them that. They have their occasional funny moment, and if you’re really bored and there’s no new episodes of anything good on Hulu, they are decent short shows to watch while eating dinner or something (I don’t watch TV, just Hulu and Netflix). I will admit that I found the first episode of Family Guy this season hilarious, though. See 11 other replies
