That's not why he had a beard.He was only supposed to have it for one episode. There was a scheduling conflict with one of the guest stars. She shoot some scenes at the beginning of the season and the rest at the end. It's a little weird that he couldn't shave it off between her filming availability, but it worked out that he had to keep it all season to keep in consistent in his scenes with her.Bill Lawrence talks about it on the commentaries. They didn't plan for J.D. to have the beard all season. Zach Braff hated it and shaved the thing off within minutes of finishing his final scene.   See 6 other replies

I liked the show at one point. But towards the end it really wasn't as entertaining as it had been. And I don't like having to see JD in his half beard to help me understand that it's been a long time for him at this hospital and he's matured soooo much. The writers really couldn't express his character growth to us in any other way than to give him facial hair?Still like the first couple of seasons!   See 6 other replies

Really? You must not have watched Scrubs at all outside of two or three odd episodes. There have been many, many episodes with serious things in them.   See 6 other replies

There are lots of serious moments in Scrubs. Besides the relationship drama, sometimes patients die. Sometimes the doctors have a really hard time dealing with that.The show isn't about medical mysteries like House, but that allows it to be vastly more realistic. Interns stealing food might be funny, but it's also true, while most of the stuff in most medical shows has to be exaggerated and twisted to allow for a big rescue at the end of the show.The main character does fantasize a lot. That makes the show fairly subjective in some ways. That took some getting used to for me and I'm sure it's not for everyone. I hope they get earlier seasons back, because the first few episodes of the show get across what it's about really well. Especially an episode called "My old lady" which starts off by introducing us to three patients and telling us that one of them is going to die.   See 6 other replies
