The world's most brilliant detective is a total basket case!
Although, ever since childhood, he has suffered from severe OCD and a list of phobias as long as his arm, Adrian Monk was able to serve for 14 years as a decorated and highly-respected officer with the San Francisco Police Department. But the murder of his beloved wife, Trudy, finally drove him over the edge into a complete mental breakdown; leading to his psychological discharge from the force. He has been slowly recovering ever since, hoping that he will eventually be well enough to get his badge back. In the meantime, he serves as a private consultant who the police call in to help solve their most puzzling cases. With powers of observation and deduction that rival those of Sherlock Holmes, and with the help of his devoted assistant Natalie, Monk can solve even the most difficult mystery -- except for the mystery of how to live a normal life in a world without Trudy. The award-winning comedy-drama Monk is, without a doubt, one of the best shows on TV today.

Monk would never have an uneven number of utensils or pieces of food.

I've been hearing about this show for a while now, but I don't get cable. In spite of Monk's peculiarities, this is a good old-fashioned Detective show. The feel evokes an old episode of "Columbo" or maybe "McCloud" Nicely done. I'd gladly watch it again.

I really enjoyed how Monk was able to handle things without his regular supporting cast or his usual surroundings. Oh, I like the regulars in the show a great deal but it was a nice change seeing Mr. Monk solve a case on a Hollywood game show in Los Angeles. Tony Shalhoub portrays the part to the letter and it is an excellent comedy/drama, overall.

Hector Elizando will be portaying Monk's therapist. Totally new character. Will be interesting to see how Adrian adjusts to change. Look how lost he was when Sharona left. RIP Stanley Kamel
