I've loved the Macross series ever since I saw the rehashed English language Robetech back in the 80's. This series almost always delivers everything I love: Mecha, Good Story and Good Characters.

Macross Plus was released in the mid-90s. Its actually the next story in the Original Macross storyline (the Japanese version, Robetech is a complete re-edit, separate from Macross using the same animation). After Macross Plus, there was Macross II, which is non-canon giving the way it ended and considered an alternate timeline. The order after that is Macross 7, Macross Zero and then Macross Frontier.

Given the expectations of viewers today, Macross 7 may be the only one that falls flat. Macross Plus though is amazing. It proved to be my gateway drug into anime.

This was the anime based on the Alternitive time line. Macross Plus was made with a Million dollar budget each, so that's way it's so detailed. This was based on Macross Zero, Macross II and then Macross 7, After which Macross Plus comes, Macross Frontieer. So this is prolithic as the Robotech Series with Macross, Sothern Cross, & Robotech. 2 seprate timelines both good stories. Enjoy..... :-j

Then you will probably like this. If you haven't seen Macross before I would say its one of the original mech animes. This is not necessarily childish, but it isn't quite adult either. Its no particularly deep, but the story does revolve around the love triangle idea done so well in the original Macross.

There is a fair amount of combat and the animation is quite good. This seemed like prelude to something bigger and I wish they had continued the story.

A mecha anime. If you don't like them, don't watch it.
A Macross/Robotech Universe anime. Takes place in a colonized world.

I have this mini series at home in VHS and now DVD. I strongly recommend it. The animation is superb, the plot gripping, if predictable.

No spoilers. Watch it.

this has 4 going for it:
1) it has a love triangle that involves tragedy in the past!
2) it has explosions and rivalry!
3) it has some funky music!
4) it's MACROSS!

i loved this series. the testosterone filled rivalry at work and love between the two main male characters is at the heart of the woman and the series. the fragility of the woman who wants to be strong despite the past only fuels them.
