With no actual thought behind my choice, I recently watched FG episode "420" in an attempt to find something funny to watch. A former fan of FG (albeit fair weathered) I consider my sense of humor to resemble FG characteristics, most likely being a bit more twisted, sarcastic, brutally honest , ironic, evil, shock seeking and "un-PC" oriented than FG. Over the past 8 or 9 yrs I prefer South Park yet I still consider the spirit of my sense of humor to be more aligned with FG. For years now I have been unable to stomach the show and then that SP episode about FG. I can see the manatees pushing those balls from one side of the pool to the other any time I get a glimpse of FG.
My Point:
As a 38 yr old pot smoker (of 22 yrs), having no children, going to see Slayer on 7/11/09 possessing a sense of humor best described as being "Family Guyesque" I found the 420 episode to be ethically repulsive. The lewd innuendo with Stewie and the whole glamorization of pot by Stewie doing that musical number was my style as far as being over the top and outrageous, but knowing the demographics of the show include many, many children as young as 10 yrs old and that on Xbox Live FG is heavily advertised for downloads (yes I play video games too) and realizing the demographics for that... Have you ever heard of the conversations that transpire on Xbox LIve?
Yes, SP is guilty and MTV is worse.
I don't know what the answers are, I know I'm getting older and more distant from the youth I still cling to so fervently... I don't expect nor wouldn't want the Leave it to Beaver days to come back (that show was funny), I was just really appalled a show as lame and unfunny and nonsensical as FG failed to maintain any of what I deem to be responsible discretion to the vast age range of their viewers. Oh well, blame it on the parents if they end up deviants like myself. See, I feel better now.
