my first glimpse of this series was in passing on adult swim. there was nothing to watch, and at the time i admit i wasnt all that into anime. the scne i happned to watch for the first time was the L/light fight scene in misa's apartment. i still remember my thoughts.
"what the hell?! why is the model dude fighting that weird looking guy?! who is that annyoing girl!?'
i admit, i switched channels almost instantly. but for soem reason, i didnt forget about it. cue a fast foward of 1 year, this past july. my firend who really was obssed with anime and said, "you look like a death note fan." heedless to say, i was like "what.....? thats thw show about these two guys fighting right? there cops or something?"
ill never foregt her look on her face, obviously comical disgust. it wasnt until i watched the show for myself did i realize how wrong and demaning my past comment was on the show... forgive me L! XD
i admit i was getting bored the third ep in, but what totally hooked me in was its unpredictably. when light didn't take the deal at the begniign of ep 4, like i was sure any anime wouldve done, i admit i was shocked. when light killed lind L tailor also unnerved me, for in teh back of my mind i was sure this show would become like so many others, and somehow "not really kill" him. boy, wasi wrong.
this show is great becuase of its philosphical view on a standard question, and how rich the aniamtion and detail was. you could literally take any side on this case, and not have an obivous end result on who would win. in ep 25...i hoenstly didnt see that coming. i admit after all this i still had the naive thinking from ep 2 that maybe L really wasnt going to die. but it happened, and i kept watching. i look on it now ,and every death in the show contrivuted to its gretaness, and the seriosuness of what toll kira and light's simple dream has caused on everyone.
i appaluded teh last ep, and its conclsuion. it was beautifully done, and i found it the first anime that didnt rely on a song with words to draw it to a close. the score in this show also was brianltly done. i ahve many of the tune-songs on my ipod.
kudos to death note. it's plot, characters, style, music, and theme. all above par and can never be copied again.
Death Note IS the shining gem in a vast array of Japanese Animation.
i kind of laugh, thinking how wrong my first thoughts on this show was...
