John co-created the musical and film Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001) for which he received two Tony Awards and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. John also directed Shortbus (2006) and Rabbit Hole (2010) which garnered an Oscar nom for Nicole Kidman as well as How to Talk to Girls at Parties (2018) starring Elle Fanning and Nicole Kidman. Recent TV roles include HBO’s Girls, HBO’s Vinyl, CBS’s The Good Fight, and Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle.  His new musical Anthem: Homunculus, written with Bryan Weller, will be released as a podcast series this year starring himself, Glenn Close, Patti Lupone, Cynthia Erivo, Denis O’Hare, Laurie Anderson, Marion Cotillard, Madeline Brewer and Ben Foster. He is presently touring The Origin of Love: The Songs and Stories of Hedwig.
