Episode 1

1977. 284 Green Street, Enfield. In 11-year-old Janet Hodgson’s bedroom, a chest of drawers slides across the floor on its own. So begins a barrage of paranormal activity that terrifies Janet’s family. Maurice Grosse (58) has wanted to investigate a paranormal case for some time. He’s relieved to escape the chilly atmosphere at home with his wife, Betty. At Green Street, cheeky, attention-seeking Janet forms a bond with Maurice, her new father figure. After a disheartening period of inactivity, Maurice witnesses a teapot slide across a table and smash. The poltergeist is real. Guy Playfair, an experienced paranormal investigator arrives and is suspicious of Maurice’s conviction. He is shocked to learn that Maurice lost his own daughter, also called Janet, in a motorcycle accident a year previously and that Maurice wants to communicate with 'his' Janet. Guy wants out. Maurice convinces Guy to stay on the proviso that he will leave Guy alone. Guy trains a camera on Janet in her room. A curtain snakes around Janet’s neck and tries to strangle her. Guy gets to Janet just in time but is flung violently across the room. Guy has experienced the poltergeist's power and he believes.

Episode 2

Determined to get Janet away from the poltergeist, Maurice sends her to her uncle's. But the poltergeist finds Janet and attacks her there. Guy invites a medium to Green Street. Determined to find out what the poltergeist wants, they start to communicate with it via knocking. Then the terrifying voice of an old man comes out of Janet’s mouth, introducing himself as Joe. Maurice discovers a man died in the house called Joe Watson and he meets his son Tony. Betty makes a surprise visit to the Hodgson’s. Janet telephones Betty, who thinks it’s her dead daughter calling her. Maurice discovers that Guy is writing a book about the case. He convinces Guy that it’s time to bring the Society of Psychical Research in. The Society's President, Professor Beloff, believes that Janet is faking Joe's voice, so Maurice resorts to extreme measures to prove that it's real. Hurt, Janet runs away to her dad’s house, and when Maurice comes to find her she accuses him of using her to try and contact his dead daughter. Maurice apologises and brings Janet back to 284 Green Street, only to find that he and Guy have been booted off the case by Beloff.
Episode 3

Episode 3

Maurice is kept away by Beloff. In order to get rid of Beloff Janet and Margaret tell the newspaper they’ve been faking the whole thing. Guy performs a Disobsession on Janet, during which she speaks to Maurice in the voice of his dead daughter. Joe Watson’s voice disappears and life returns to normal, though Maurice and Betty remain separated by their grief. When Janet is rushed to hospital after being attacked again by the poltergeist, Betty gives Maurice an ultimatum: her or Janet. Heavily sedated in hospital, Janet is due to have Electro Convulsive Therapy. Mrs Hodgson steps in and convinces the doctors that the family have been making it all up. Janet is released. Maurice has a breakdown where he and Betty finally admit to each other the guilt and anger they feel over their daughter’s death. Betty convinces Maurice to go back to Janet. Maurice takes her to an airport where she screams out her rage, and he reassures her that her father leaving wasn’t her fault. In a final séance with the Medium, Janet Hodgson speaks in
