Costume Designer, designer and stylist, Salvador Perez completed his 100th episode of designing for the hit HULU show “The Mindy Project.” In 2015, Perez received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Costumes in a Contemporary Series for his work on the show. In addition to designing the costumes for “The Mindy Project,” he has designed several custom looks for Mindy Kaling for her red carpet and other appearances, which have been cited as “best dressed.”
Perez has worked as a costume designer on other television series such as “Castle,” “Moonlight,” “Veronica Mars” and the Lifetime movie “Liz and Dick,” as well as feature films like “Pitch Perfect,” “Pitch Perfect 2,” “Think Like a Man” 1 and 2, “Men of Honor,” “Drumline” and “Faster.”
An accomplished stitcher, he began his career by first making costumes and then became a costume manufacturing foreman and later an assistant designer on films like “Titanic,” “The Flintstones” and “Barb Wire.”
He recently completed his first jewelry design collaboration with Bauble Bar, served as a brand ambassador for Casio Watches and worked with EXPRESS on a curated collection inspired by his work on “Pitch Perfect 2.” With his vast knowledge of clothing construction and manufacturing, Perez was also sought out by the J. Peterman Catalogue to design and develop their Movie Legends Line.
For the second year in a row, Perez has been recognized by members of the Costume Designers Guild, who elected him President of their organization.
His work has been covered widely in the fashion and entertainment press, including InStyle, E! News, Glamour, Fashionista, The Hollywood Reporter, Entertainment Weekly, OK!, US Weekly, People and People Stylewatch.
Perez’s approach is highly detailed and considers every aspect of a character’s personality while telling the story through costume. Knowing how clothes should fit and be made, he has a unique ability to fit and tailor clothes to make people look their best. He brings his love for his art with him to every fitting, every shopping trip, and every day on set.
Born and raised in Central California, Perez attended The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM).
