I felt like I was watching a really long, really poor produced episode of Made or something. I found it pretty ironic cause these filmaker's are just about as bad as jp is at rapping. Luckily I only watched for 20 mins and was then led to the ODB documentary. So there's that

I wouldn't have watch this if it weren't on Hulu. I'm a black guy and have watched many of these rap documentaries on Hulu. This one is just OK. I didn't find it offensive because the issues in the movie are true(weed,tattoos,clothes,cars,groupies in videos).BUT the answer is NO--ya can't build a rapper--well,maybe.

I thought the film was a breath of fresh air lacking of the hollywood stench. Lacking a standard agenda like so many movies. It's just a refreshing story of a young man blindly pursuing a dream.

Obviously its staged, but it actually cast the world of reality into the film unsuspectingly which breaks into a new dimension of theatre and cinema . An actor playing him self in the real world w/ an unprompted cast around him, that is a bold territory to dive into. I think editing could have been way better. There are lots of really funny and good stuff especially in the last half, but it wasn't strung together well enough to give the material justice. I would love to see a 60 minute edit. Did anyone see "I'm Still Here" w/ Joaqin Phoenix ? it's the one where the actor(Joaqin as himself) decides to give up acting to pursue a HipHop Career as "J.P." . Some of the public scenes and interviews were VERY similar especially the one w/ the record label exec.ps: I wonder if a documentary of our lives and how we chase our dreams would be boring, inspiring, hilarious or tragically sad.

So I get the whole "mock-umentary" and "drama-dy" angle so I can appreciate the overall absurdity as the central device of the film. Honestly though the goofy white boy who wants to be a rapper joke is just played out. It has been done before and done much better. If you want to see this gag done right find episodes of "Jamie Kennedy Blowin' Up" I think you can watch the whole series in less time than this movie takes. I personally would have much rather watched the "producers" take it seriously and really give a talented rapper a shot. As far as comedy though, the suburban white baffoon with delusions of gangsta grandeur is just not that funny.

Really...? I couldn't get past the first commercial break- so I have no idea how this ends, but I can say this much- that guy is an actor and a plant- I wonder if the pros in this train crsh will lose credibility- not likely considering today's generation of sheep.
Can we get a Doc on Mos Def, De La Soul, even Public Enemy... PLEEEEAAAASSSEEE!!!
