Forgettable? I don't know about you, but that scene where Czez gets his head blown off is going to stick with me for the rest of my life. I loved every minute of this show. And yeah, I expected to see some reviews like these. The story telling scheme was really confusing, in fact I'm going to have to watch again to pick up all the things I missed, but I definitely caught enough to know that this is one of the better stories in anime. The characters were too lovable to be called sappy, and the story contained too much intricacy and suspense to be compared to The Highlander. Seriously dude, The Highlander?

I also feel that you may have just not given the depth of this anime a chance, it's not simply an anime concerned with character development or laying out at plot but definitely revolves around a bit of symbolism. If that didn't hit you with this last episode, I don't know if you'll ever conceive this perspective of the anime, but I'll try. Why do you think the story begin with a debate over how to start the story and ended with the mechanism to end it? They may have been trying to make viewers concentrate on the concept of a story perhaps, ha....basically you can see, by the ending dialogue clearly, that the developers were trying to make a correlation or better a direct metaphor between the immortals and the "life" of a story. Each immortal could have represented a different kind of story, the way they can devour each simply evokes the how every story could derive inspiration, creativity, plot archetypes and etc. from another story. The apparently unreasonable violence was just a mechanism to reflect the ability of a story to be interpreted differently .by each person. The only person that could understand the reason was the individual committing the act. There are many more ways to make these correlations but I'm a bit lazy right now (5am and cramming for a test, but you get the point). Also, beginning right at 1929 can only make me think they were trying to point to the Great Depression, in which case this story could just be a somewhat comedic commentary on the often irrational violence following Black Tuesday. A nation confused, people having to compromise their morals (greatly exaggerated), but then that leaves little purpose for choosing the year 1711 except to emphasize that perhaps the depression was imminent. ...ahh I'm too tired to analyze right now.But hope this helps you see it in a new perspective, even if you didn't enjoy it!

I'm sorry, but a review like this clearly shows just how little you understood the series. Heck, the fact you called it forgettable makes me think you skipped episodes or outright ignored entire chunks of the series.While the out-of-order storyline may have been a negative point for you, it serves as an admirable means to keep the audience engrossed by making every episode answer a few questions and raise a few more. Every episode allowed you to learn more about the past present and future of all of the characters and it always created just enough confusion to interest its audience without pushing them away.the last thing I'll leave you with is this: Baccano is the Italian word for ruckus, and that suits this series perfectly.
