I don't think that when the casting directors set out to find a "Camille" they were intentionally looking for a black woman. I think they were looking for a strong woman who could play the authoritative role and look good doing it.
And I highly doubt that when they cast someone named "Angela Montenegro" they were focusing on finding an Asian woman to fit that name. I know somebody is going to say that that was a racist comment because names don't necessarily define race, blah, blah, blah, but Hollywood stereotypes with names. Do you think in real life every Mexican female is a housekeeper named Rosa? That is my point.
As an actress I can tell you from reading lead sheets and going to auditions that sometimes they call for a certain race and sometimes they are looking for someone to fit the personality. Sometimes the role calls for a Chinese man and they cast a Japanese man. Sometimes people fake accents.

Because halfies are the rage now. Mad a little? I find it offensive that in your view being half of something excludes me from being a part of that race. So what exactly are we supposed to be, outcasts unable to identify with any ethnicity? Can't you see the irony in you bringing up racism and prejudice and at the same time claiming mixed race people as not "real minorities"? I guess mixed race people have to deal with discrimination on all sides. I find it refreshing that in the last few years mixed race people have become more popular in our culture, as opposed to being excluded from both minority and non-minority circles and being left with no identity to claim.On a related note, I had to laugh at the contradictory nature of one of your responses to a comment. You said there are "probably" more minorities that aren't mixed race. First of all, that's only true if you don't include accepted races that are known to originate from multiple races (ie. Mexicans from Spanish and indigenous cultures. Or the fact that most African Americans have some white blood in them, considering they are much lighter than Africans). How about this idea: they weren't cast to appease minority viewers, they were cast as people. The idea that they were only cast because of their minority background (which I am not saying is not something that happens when casting a show) is already accusing the casting directors of being racists. So why would it matter if they cast "half-minorities" for that purpose any more than casting "real minorities" would?   See 30 other replies
