I just watched the Beth/Al scene twice.. once with the dialog, and once with the sound down, and "Georgia on my Mind" playing in another window on YouTube. 1,000% better with Georgia on my mind, even without the heartfelt dialog. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Thls_tMuFkc)
I love QL and was Xcited when the DVDs were released. This episode, MIA however, totally S*uck*ed without "Georgia On My Mind". That song absolutely pulls at ur heart when played with the dance scene. It makes the entire episode come together. Sad to hear some stupid muzak played in place of the original soundtrack.
It's not the same without the original background music especially during Beth and Al's dance scene. The music set the tone of the scene. The replacement music didn't reflect the sad mood. What a shame.
The original music aired with 'MIA' made this episode of Quantum Leap unforgettable. Not only is Ray Charles' "Georgia on My Mind" missing (the Bill Medley version might have been an acceptable substitute), but if memory serves, other songs were missing throughout. This episode doesn't fly without the original music. Whatever they're asking, pay the dudes for the rights to use the original songs with this episode!
I 100% agree with you. What's stupid is they released the DVDs without the original music for copyright reasons. My local ION channel was airing Quantum Leap for a while, they had all of the original music on there. I'm boycotting the DVDs, I don't want to buy part of a show, I want it all, the music really made the show special. The Al and Beth scene makes me cry, it's sad. I have the episode saved on my parents DVR, when I visit for Christmas, I'm going to watch it.
