I never thought I'd get to see this film, adapted from the hilarious war memoirs of one of the best comedian's of all time. To spoil it, no spike milligan did not die at war. He went on to write the goon show, and change comedy forever.

I liked this movie, it had some pretty good humor in it. I feel that the people that don't like the movie either don't get the humor/wit or are too used to the modern Hollywood generic comedies and movies. As someone said the set had a lot of period stuff in it. It did grace over mortality in parts. After the last joke you can tell from their faces they realized that it would no longer be game.I am actually becoming a bigger fan of older movies in general. I like these movies because they are a change from the typical blow it up no plot movies or dumb and lewd movies that are now released. Even most modern comedies have a common generic cookie cutter theme to them.It's definitely a breath of fresh air to watch this. I don't believe it is an all time great, but not a disappointing movie like today's $10.50 movies. I was quite entertained and would recommend someone to watch it in their free time.

While watching this trash, I kept staring at the pencil on my desk, wondering if sticking in my eye wouldn't be more entertaining.I love Blighters but I just don't get it.

This movie had to be the inspiration for Stripes.
Not a very good movie at all but it's nice that the British were able to find some little piece of solice after the horrible atrocities that befell them during WW II.

It's not exactly fair to expect this movie to have a typical story structure (which is overrated anyhow). It's based on one of four books in (comedic) war-time memoirs by Spike Milligan, so technically you might call this just the beginning. Of course the book was more in-depth, but I think those that worked on this film did an alright job getting across the tone behind Spike's work, which has generally been harshly criticized or highly regarded.The largest problem is the lack of character developments between Spike and the others. Perhaps narration might have been a good touch?Worth watching if you're not expecting lots of action or a novel structure.

I would have preferred to watch mind numbing episodes of Benny Hill compared to this rubbish.Okay so the real spike played the father.. big deal. Was Spike Milligan significant to begin with?This was like a bad vaudeville sketch... dragged out for 2 hours!

No foggin' SFX, mostly accurate gear and such like, good show
