I cannot stand how this documentary sheds a flattering light on Fidel. Yes we get it, Fidel fought and revolutionized Cuba against Batista. However he ultimately did that so that he could control and dictate Cuba NOT to free the people. At that time he had done what many considered a good deed. Oh, how these dictators start out seemingly well meaning. If you're going to show the good of Fidel you should show the bad too.
Could we please take a look into life under his dictatorship? The poverty, the fear of speaking harshly about Fidel, and the right to vote stripped. The harsh reality of Fidel has inflicted brutality on Cuba in the form of a totalitarian state. This documentary does not go into horrific loss of human political rights under the communist party. Instead it is painting a falsely pretty picture.
My grandmother left Cuba. She was lucky. In the states she met up with another exile who said that Fidel shot her family and neighbors for owning land when he was taking over. They did not want to give over their land to his government so they were shot. Does this documentary uncover that? No. So what about Fidels view of human life and right of ownership for all?
Redemption in his last years on this earth...I don't think so. People may forget or not be aware of his brutality but I think he is far from being judged softly by history.
