As a big fan of V.C. Andrews' , I was happy to see another film made from her books. The actress who plays Rain is perfect for the role and Faye Dunaway appears marvelously in the role of Grandmother Hudson. I enjoyed it a lot.

I love the story. Not too much tragedy, the villains were a little over the top and stereotypical. But Rain's adopted family made this story very heart felt and warm, real is the word for this movie, it seemed very believable. The acting was incredible, and I thought the cast was exceptional.

Plus: I like Roy to be my brother too!!
Minus:
- acting: only Rain's adopted mother and grandma (Dunaway) deserves a mention, poorest acting: the white boy admirer
- storyline and script: my, my, too contrived!
- directing: sucks, too!
- musical score: just one song! she's supposed to be a great talent, and only one song was written for her and she sang this song repeatedly! duh!!

The scenes and dialogue were dry and thin, were not fleshed out credibly to arrived at the moral of the story. It was promising at the beginning but fizzled blandly right at when she arrived at her grandma's place. Biggest blunder: script and directing.

terrible acting! i thought the premise has been done to death in the 80's,i guess they are gonna bring it back!...brooklyn "rain" was ok i guess and of course faye dunaway was excellent....but everyone else sucked sooooo bad,i mean it was like a car wreck i could not look away.....the thug and ms whitney were the worst by far!!!

Really? How many white people do you actually know, and who exactly falls into the category of "white"? I'm categorized as white, as most "white" people I know, I've had to work my butt off to make a decent living. I also know lazy people of both races. Get with it and get over these nonsense, stupid, insulting and ignorant stereotypes.

A feel good story with some challenging moments. I refuse to get into the whole race thing. I just saw an underpriviliged girl with too much talent and overpriviliged people who needed to be reminded what being human is.
