That the vampires could go out in the sun was also in the original Dracula (I believe his powers were weakend then and that is when he usually slept). Nosfurartu instroduced the idea that they would turn to dust if the were exposed to sunlight and it just sort of stuck because it just seemed to make so much sense (i.e. powerfull, ageless creatures of the night but they can't be exposed to daylight).
The true wallbanger her is that not only do the vampires walk in the day light, its that they SPARKLE. That detail alone proves that the franchise was made for tween girl wish fulfilment. The vampires sparkle in daylight! You could tell me that these vampires can fly and shoot freaken laser beams out of their eyes but when your creatures of the night sparkle they give up their status as monsters. See 4 other replies
