Jason what are these magical forces you speak of within the milky way that keep our sun stable? Also the voids with no stars are because all the cosmic gas has been pulled from that area by gravity into galaxies. The individual particles would be attracted to each other due to gravity, and as more particles came together the gravity would get stronger pulling more in. This would continue until you have a galaxy or some other stable cosmic thing. Think of it as a bunch of small blobs absorbing the blobs next to them until there was only one big blob left. I agree. Characterizing these phenomena as "most deadly" means little when humans can't even survive outside Earth's own atmosphere. Some things have a greater significance apart from the "Will it kill me?" factor.

Maybe having grown up with Carl Sagan's 'The Cosmos' has set the bar too high, but I find the whole 'natural phenomena as terrorists' approach insulting to my intelligence, not to mention the SFX frivilous (no disrespect intended to the score) as no sound can be heard in space. The narration was 50% drivel, and while the animation was fun I still found the actual footage from telescopes and satelites to be the most breathtaking. MORE SCIENCE, LESS FLUFF!!!

The term dark matter is a place holder term. We actually have no idea what it is or what its effect on matter is (except for gravity). We have no idea what the temperature is or anything. It could just as easily be called invisible matter and still be as accurate as we can make it. Also dark matter exists in the galaxies and dark enegy exists outside of the galaxies. As I said before we have no idea what these things actually are they are just place holder terms. See 7 other replies
