In the tradition of the old school academic tale, this movie stands on it's own- I adore this movie! Kleine gave an enjoyable portrayal of the passionate moral teacher faced with enlightening students not only of history's emperors but the virtues that make great leaders... great men. The character Mr Hundert never looses dignity from Cedric's provocations; steadfast with conviction's guidance he symbolized a pillar for teaching the universal principals of truth.

I liked it better when it starred Robin Williams and was called Dead Poets Society. The similarities are more than coincidental(particularly in the first half of the movie), and while Kline certainly displays an equal amount of emotional depth, he lacks the humor of Williams. Still, all things considered, I enjoyed it.

I like Kevin Kline, but wish he would do more expansive roles. Otto from fish called wanda he will always be for me...

It's too bad that we must put up with trolls like Mr. Hartman who post inflammatory drivel to attempt to draw attention to them selves, and away from fine movies. *sigh*

A better comparison would be to Mr. Holland's Opus. The truth is that any of the three should be honored to be compared to the other two. All three films are superb representations of the art. See 3 other replies
