I am disheartened by NBC's failure to renew this series. I feel that the era of allowing shows to grow is dying, alongside the era when networks actually believed in the value of their broadcast projects, rather than being beholden to mass appeal and neilsen at the cost of anything else. This was an intelligent, well-acted, NON CONVENTIONAL, thought-provoking, subtle, and moving television show. That may be why it is being cancelled. Because it appealed to people who cared about those things. What will replace it? A reality show or a 30-minute situation comedy full of phallic references? Perhaps another segment of candid camera or cathing pedophiles on tape. I recognize that networks run on profits and stock valuation. I'm not naive enough to think otherwise. I do think that THEY (the networks) ARE naive, on their own terms: forgetful of halo effects, viewer quality vs. mere quantity, the power of opinion leaders, etc. Maybe it will find renewed life on scifi? It seems doubtful, and, at the end of the day, we the people -- the people who appreciate the art and craft of well written drama and science fiction - are lesser for it. To the writers, actors, and producers associated with this project: Thank you. To the executives, marketing geeks, and company men who cancelled it: you should be ashamed.
