I probably saw the original Universal film, 'The Wolf Man' before most of you were even born, and it made me a werewolf movie junkie for the rest of my life.
Here's how it happened ... My parents took me on a visit to my grandmother's house which in itself looked like the Adam's Family residence. It was about 8 PM when the movie came on and the four of us were sitting in my grandmother's parlor (in the dark to save electricity of course) and the movie scared the b'Jesus out of me. I was only seven years old but old enough to not want anyone to think I was a sissy so I kept my cool. Then, after the movie was over, my grandmother starts telling a story about an event which took place in her village back in Sicily when she was about my age. Now she's telling this story in Italian so I won't understand her but unknown to her or my parents I understood every word from constantly hearing the language interspersed with English in our first-generation-American family. Her story involved a man who murdered his family and the cause was attributed to insanity brought on by the moon. The term she used, and which is still used today is La Mala Luna, or, The Bad moon. Now, I interpreted this to mean that the guy back in Italy was a real werewolf and that she was trying to secretly validate the authenticity of the movie without scaring me which made me believe it even more. For years afterward I was terrified of the very idea of werewolves but couldn't help watching every werewolf movie that came out and I believe I have seen them all.
This trailer leads me to suspect that this will be the best werewolf movie ever made, and I can't wait for it to open at the theaters !!!
