I've never written a review on Hulu until now. This show was a tutorial on musicianship, tenacity, and innovation. Les Paul should be held in the same regard as Ford, Edison, Tesla and Gates. You can debate who made what first but the fact remains that these people redefined our reality.
From church choir to opening for the Oak Ridge Boys, I've had a few decades of experience as a musician and never realized that Les Paul contributed so much to music...on both sides of the glass. Chasing a certain sound is something to which all musicians are bound and you see this in the faces of other performers / musicians who speak the language.
I watched the movie and then specifically went back to where Bonnie Raitt, Tony Bennett and BB King were talking about Les while his music played. At each interview, there was a moment where these "celebrities" faded and the "musician" came out.
The look in their eyes, the catch in their next statement, the practiced smile that they all have which faded for a moment - These - were - glorious! You see them transported to a time when music was a secret language where your heart and mind could be free... where they not tainted by the business.
For me, it was a reminder of the choices I made and the reasons I chose them. And in doing so, I appreciate Robert Frost even more so.
