John does what he thinks is best, and sometimes it isn't; but he isn't a moron. To the contrary, up to this point he is among the more reliable of the bunch, and one of the few who hasn't let his feelings about other people around him warp his judgment. Sayid is the only individual on the island who has been proven from the very beginning a decent, accountable, and useful member. Everyone else at one point or another has either been compromised entirely, or made a major nigh-unforgivable slip up.Nevertheless, the interesting angle I find is personal application; what would I do under those circumstances? It's one thing to point fingers from the den or office chair, but if it were any of us faced with uncomfortable living for months, enemies and mysteries everywhere, death, polar bears, hatches, and black killer smoke that takes the form of dead people, I don't think we'd do much better. It's also worth remembering that all these folks started off as nothing more than fellow airplane passengers.
