Jemaine, where's Bret?! This looks to be mildly entertaining, worth watching as an easy-enough and likable escape to follow along with some interest, but I'm stopping short of a clever comedy. The supporting cast needn't always be written as the predictable circus troupe of caricatures - they provide for situational humor but if the preview is indicative, the jokes fell flat. The childhood hero as fraud, mom the overly protective and emotionally unstable wreck who adopts-a-hippy as a friend for her ultra-reclusive little boy, who apparently has no trouble finding a girl with an interest in his unabashedly camp science fiction writing. It just feels a work in extremes, and all done before. Still, I'll buy in as an encore movie on a rental night and hope it charms, but I won't be circling the release date on the calendar.
