Amanda is a really underdeveloped character. Her relationship with Kyle seems to be written for a Disney Princess movie, not a show with an audience above 12. The idea of Kyle+Amanda is appealing: Love from first sight, Kyle=prince charming, an attractive, intelligent guy whose life revolves around making her fall in love with him (unless he is out saving the world and curing the sick). He is essentially the perfect boyfriend.Amanda=the typical girl next door with a good heart. Many people identify with her and thus want her to have her "prince charming".The problem with this relationship is that it is downright boring. After the first date, there was really nothing going on. Ever. Even though I have watched the series over an embarassingly short period of time, I do not remember them ever doing anything other than staring longingly into each other's eyes. If Jaime did not come along the show would die in the beggining of season 2.Jessi on the other hand is a much more complex character - and Jaime does a superb job portraying her.
The fascinating thing about her character is that she wants nothing more than to be like Kyle. She wants to be friends with the same people Kyle is, she wants to be liked, she wants to be "special", to be the prodigy Latnok is searching for - all the things that Kyle has and takes for granted.

What makes it even more interesting is that she is the only person Kyle is somewhat of a jerk to for most of season 2, throughout the show his lack of regard for Jessi´s feelings is his only imperfection.

He realizes that he is the only genuine friend Jessi has (on several ocasions) , yet he keeps turning her away to be there for people who do not truly need him - most of his time is spent tutoring people/making dinners/fixing household appliances etc, but he does not have enough time for Jessi and almost drives her to a point of suicide.   See 11 other replies

You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means...Anyway, I kind of agree with you, Joel. I personally liked Amanda, and Kyle's relationship with her. I was always rooting for them. But it was one-dimensional. The two season struggle to win her was a great story (IMO), but what else could happen after he got her? There's a reason "Happily Ever After" is used as an ending, not a beginning.   See 11 other replies

Actually, within the context of the story Kyle does need someone like Jessi, though not necessarily her. He has great gifts, but he's unlikely to realize his potential if his personal relationships are of the sort that would hold him back. Amanda is unfortunately the latter sort (not a comment on her in general, just in regard to Kyle).I was not conflating drama with love, and not all human love involves trust. Many/most of us may wish the latter two went hand-in-hand, but they sadly don't.My reference to "human drama" was about the totality of the storyline that results from either pursuing or at least toying with a Kyle-Jessi relationship. The latter is not only in keeping with the characters' background and personalities, but it is also an inherently more compelling source of human experiences and conflicts to explore.There is not much to be learned or said about a sweet ordinary teen relationship. There *is* something interesting and new to be explored about two individuals with extraordinary gifts but hindered by an inherently disfunctional/inadequate socialization and rearing process (i.e., they grew in pods, had no childhood, etc). [And, yes, that Kyle and Jessi have made up for some lost ground in the latter so rapidly is one of the several areas of the show that requires suspension of disbelief.)Given the premise of the show, the screenwriters would be remiss in *not* exploring a possible Kyle-Jessi relationship.And Jessi needs both love and trust more than any other character in the show. You are missing much of the content if you don't see the latter. This is one of the most true and insighttfully human aspects of the story.Jessi also serves as a foil to Kyle in this regard: he has a great heart, but is it up to the challenge that someone like her presents?   See 11 other replies

Jessie should have been killed off twice over, the back and forth crap was because Kyle Loved Amanda while Jessie was manipulating him. if any body was holding Kyle back it was Jessie. Kyle spent to much time trying to FIX Jessie and not enuff time developing his own ablitys. Cassidy said it him self Kyle would do any thing for Amanda and any thing includes bettering himself to be better able to do anything for Amanda   See 11 other replies
