Interesting change of pace and location for the show, as Ironpants and his man go to some unnamed, vaguely Teutonic European country to head up the U.S. side of the security for some prisoner release negotiations. Their adversaries? Definitely NOT Red China, wink wink. The storyline, surprisingly, feels timely, as it seems Americans are being arrested and accused of spying somewhere every few months or so these days. At first I thought that maybe the show was dipping a paralyzed toe into Mission: Impossible territory--which was at the height of its popularity about the same time--with this tale of foreign intrigue, but it actually plays out fairly straight, and that hurts the suspense quite a bit. The villain is revealed relatively early, and not much detective derring-do is required. Still, the bad guy is pretty good at being unlikeable, the Germanic host dude is easy on the eyes, and the Chief's moments w/ his Asian counterpart are nice. Ed and Eve get stuck back at the office in this one.
