Can see how the play would have been popular on Broadway; and in a Pursuit of Happyness vein I can see too how this poor-thinks-he-can-be-a-millionnaire father who loves his son so much plot of a corny square story worked in 1959--driving Cadillac convertibles with fins, playing bongo drums, and omg a mere $200 flight from New York to Miami for two! add in hula hoops and cigarette machines and gum for 5 cents. A SinCap production meaning Sinatra and Capra both chipped in to make the film. The genre was so Elvis movie, but the plot was good and all the actors perfect for the story. We have Jim Carrey dumb and dumber movies, so why not enjoy this vintage kookie square one! It's worth it for the vernacular alone. But--hulu went too far with commercial interruption this time--it was off the wall obnoxious--every scene broken with four commercials all the way through. Not good.
