I like the fact that they paired the two. Both dealt with sexual harassment, and both are addicts. We might think in our heads, hey someone addicted to shopping, or sex, or food, or television isn't as bad as a heroin addict on the street, but it's really the same thing. Addictions as strong as these affects lives in the same ways. Some are just less life threatening and easier to hide than others. And if you listened in to what Hiedi's mom said, she tried drugs when she was younger. But she moved on to another addiction. People just pick and choose.
"everyone has problems... drugs are the easiest way to cope... "I wouldn't say that. I would say that drugs were the easiest way to cope FOR HER. Everyone copes differently.
You are so right! I mean... Shopping addiction? LAME.They should have put her story with a alcoholic's story instead of Michelle's. Michelle's story is so intense compared to Heidi's that it just overwhelms it to the point of just being nothing.
The program did not go into the detains of Michelle's relationship with her mother. It's obvious that she had a lot of resentment towards her mother, but it's irresponsible of you to blame the concert of family dysfunction (the cousin and family friend's actions) on the mother.Tangent: Just write out the word sex. There's no reason to use stars.
Did you notice (and I speak from knowledge of treatment) that she didn't want her mother in the session, YET was so very happy that she had a "Great relationship" with her mother now in which they speak every day, several times a day. That goes to show that her mother was not bad, however drug addicts and drinkers experience an inflated sense of guilt; therefor it was hard to face her mother at the intervention. I think it's unbelievable people blame the parent (in some cases such as that parent that they are speaking of has abused them or molested them that is different) however when you have a child that is of an adult age there isn't a whole lot you can do to stop the drug use except an intervention and pray they accept it and then try with Gods help to stick with the consequences. This lil' girl is awsome and is so happy about her new relationship with her mom so kudos to them both and may God guide every step and may they have open eyes and the strength to follow that path.

So if you know someone on a personal level it's okay to judge them? lol. I get your point, but actually, you are judging her as well, saying that she is a wonderful human being. So you must know her personally then, I guess. To me, she seemed a bit worthless and stupid. Maybe we were watching a different show *shrugs*Call it judgement if you like, but I would guess that many of that kid's issues are in large part due to her wonderful mom's general lack of smarts.
