I just sat and watched Spaced from start to finish over a couple of days and found it to be charming and hilarious. Obviously I came to it through my appreciation of
Wright/Pegg/Frost and I was not disapointed. The rest of the cast were fantastic as well.
I kept thinking though I wish the story continued (always the issue with British series) I am so very thankful Fox did not pick up the pilot for the Spaced US version which would have clearly raped the original show of its sweet nature and replaced it with stupid puns and bad performances. Spaced isnt an original idea, its one line description reads like Threes Company, but it is in the dialogue and the stories, the characters and the performers that transcend cliche. It could not have been replicated, just reimagined into something less spectacular.
Don't get me wrong I'm not a snob, I enjoy the US Office from time to time, and the supporting players are much stronger the Tim, Gareth and co. But Carrel doesn't hold a candle to Gervais and for fans that have only been exposed to the US Office, take a look at the British series and be floored by how many story points and developments were first thought up by the Brit writers.
