I'll say it looks pretty silly at first glance. Normally, I'm not a fan of comic book shows, but I was intrigued because I was a fan of this guy that created a black super-hero comic series back then, when I worked in a video store. Yea...the acting, dialog, and effects are pretty awful, but it's entertaining anyway. Even though, it's all common knowledge at this point, and the racist LA police force has been cleaned up since, I appreciate the angle from the black perspective. I'm not too surprised that it's written by whites. That's Hollywood for ya.
Another misnomer is the idea that violent, drug-dealing, gun running gang members are somehow really good people who just need a chance to do the right thing. Yea? Well they could work with the disabled, or homeless, etc. like I did for many years, but they’d make a lot less money, see less action, get less shorties, and have less power, but it would be honorable work. I mean seriously...gang-shootings and drive-by's are committed by the gang members over dealing-turf, initiations, retaliation, revenge. It's part of the lifestyle. Modern gangs are the new Black Panthers, not! And am I supposed to feel sorry for punks who aren't willing to “tarnish” their rep by doing something good for humanity for little reward? Well...don't hold your breath on that one.
Still, I find the show sort of interesting and funny, but it does lack in one area: So far, I have watched two episodes and there has been an average of one person being thrown through the air from a springboard per episode. Now, I'm not saying that's too little an average, but I can see why Gina Torres chose to go over to “Cleopatra 2025”(a show that consists almost entirely of people being shot off from springboards). In short...more springboards, please!
