I liked the movie, period. It was a strong story, well-paced and often surprising, with good acting and production values. From a sorta "Wild at Heart" feeling in the beginning, it went a lot of places Lynch never let Sailor and Lula go, as in, 'reality.' (Although I do love Lynch's work).
This is the kind of script that you would think the big folks in Hollywood are waiting for ... with a bit more money and studio polish this script could have been another "Winter's Bone," albeit in 2001. Instead, the studios churn out sequels to even weak originals, remakes of TV shows and foreign flicks, and formula movies to hit a certain demographic. Well hey, here's a small, overlooked gem that beats the heck out of 'color by the numbers' schlock like "No Strings Attached," etc. Enjoy!
