The best Allen movie I've seen, but I have to admit I've not seen more than I have seen. Anyway, it's a lovely film, it skips along like a fairy in the woods (the opening scene at the farm?).
Allen as the genius inventor no one will ever know was a transparent, but lovable metaphor for Allen the film auteur. It adds a dimension to Mia Farrow's character loving him, if briefly.
It works well in so many ways. It's a thrill to see Allen and his ensemble at the height of their careers in a comedy, or I should say, a farce. And this picture does evoke somehow, the spirit of the original Shakespeare farce that goes by a similar title.
Besides that, it's visually beautiful.
The movie was over before I knew it. It's rare for me to see a film in which I don't suffer the letdown of at least one tedious, false moment.
