I was absolutely amazed by how bright the matches were back then... (see 50:00 section)...

Thunderbird still exists today. It's a global business school -- one of the best, actually. The previous poster says it was filmed in Mesa and Deer Valley, but many (if not all) the real flying footage is at Thunderbird. Thunderbird Field was in Phoenix at the time, now it's in Glendale, Arizona.

You can clearly see the Control Tower (still on campus, and currently in a renovation campaign), and the aerial view in the beginning is definitely Thunderbird campus, which was designed to look like a bird from the air.

Thunderbird has an interesting history as an air base. When the war ended, the General in charge of the base bought it from the Government (for $1, I believe) and turned it into a business trade school that specialized in international management. Lots of students were former airmen and GIs on the newly-created GI Bill (1944), and Thunderbird went on to become a renowned school of international business.

Thunderbird the school is a wonderful place, and though this movie isn't an award-winning blockbuster, it's nice to see the great old footage of Thunderbird Field, the barracks, the Tower, etc. in a nice quality video. Thanks to Hulu for it!

Tierney's a beauty alright. And that Mesa AZ country is lovely too. The film had a lot of interesting cultural artifacts. The guys seemed a little gay, which is probably cinema verite. And the voice over was very admiring of the Chinese pilots, and they let the comically excessively tall, aggressive female Red Cross volunteer grab a very small Chinese man and maul him. That was racially impressive. The film was blatantly favorable of men over 40 romancing women more than 20 years their juniors. And the old instructor definitely grabbed Tierney's backside when he pulled her down from the ladder. It was funny when the englishman said he supposed he was typical of Englishmen considering he was an extremely wealthy aristocrat. Finally the voice over crowed about bombing German cities, including Dusseldorf. I hate Nazi's as much as anyone, I think, but those city bombings were pretty much war crimes. Better they should have bombed Auschwitz, and killed those SS butchers, most of whom either never faced justice or received light sentences.

I am really surprised to see this on HULU !, it's not an easy film to find!.
It took me more than a month to find it (Amazon.com) to purchase. I wanted this movie for some research that I was doing on Falcon Field in Mesa Az, part of this was filmed at it (the scenes where you can see the small red mountain with a red cliff half way up one side, in the background at the airfield shots!) but most of it was filmed at the Dear Valley airfield in Az, (about 20 miles NW of Falcon Field) anyway nice going HULU, once again!.
The movie it's self is a little better than OK, the acting is typical for the time period, it was part of the movie mills that went on back in the 40s, and you can clearly tell that this was originally written as a western (no! really it was!), but i do have to say! Gene Tierney was cute WOW!, too bad people have to get old!.

Tags that are inciting or spiteful
Tags that might harass, abuse or threaten members of the community
Tags that may reveal your personal information or any personal information about children under age 13
Tags that promote illegal or immoral conduct
Tags containing special characters or more than 50 characters

Can everyone see my tags?

To help other Hulu users find interesting videos, your tags are public by default and everyone can see them. And as you navigate using tags, you will find interesting videos as collectively organized by Hulu users.
