The "older kidnapper woman" is Jean Hagen who was, indeed, one of the leads in "Singin' in the Rain." I didn't recognize her until her character's moral conflict was introduced - her maternal instincts versus her greed - at which point her amazingly rubbery face went into action! Watch the very last scene she's in in SITR - where she is exposed as NOT the singer in "The Dancing Cavalier." Hagen addresses the audience after the premiere and the audience wants her to sing . . . which, of course, she can't do. The number of expressions she's able to manufacture in about 1.5 seconds is astonishing and hilarious. While not the beauty she was in 1952, she retained the ability to express multiple emotional states simultaneously and provided, I think, a poignant performance in this S& H episode. What a treat to see the aging Hagenand a young John Ritter in the same episode. Oh, and Kristy M. Great fun.
