She really is very bitter and goes about things in the wrong way, but try to see things from her point of view. One daughter is dead, and the other isn't coping well with the older one's death. She has some weird girl hanging around the house who is poking fun at her daughter's death (not actually the case as the weird girl is her daughter in the afterlife, but that's the not way she sees it or course) and her marriage is falling apart. She was probably raised to conceal emotions and that showing grief was weakness, so she thinks Reggie should be the same way. She can't understand why Reggie acts the way she does, and her inability to understand her pushes her away. I'm not excusing her behavior, but I can kinda see why she acts the way she does.   See 5 other replies
