Early on they found a world that seemed like theirs but saw unbelievable things in the newspaper which were in fact common knowledge in our world. Maybe that one was in fact our world.

Later in the season SPOILERS ahead....

The writers did at some point say that that one was in fact not their world. This is made sort of clear later on as in that world the gate was fixed but when they were able to use the timer properly and set it to get them home the gate in that world still sqeeked indicateing that it was definatly not the one seen earlier. Lol to think I came up with a theory based on a silly detail that even turned out to be incorrect and yet there are all of these substantial pieces of evidence that I overlooked. University of California (Berkeley) is not in SF afaik (UCSF is a medical school, without a physics program)... so I believe Sliders started out in a "parallel" world itself

Moreover, there's no such thing as "Professor of Cosmology and Ontology" ... not in these days, at least. See 4 other replies

So I alwayse thought the sliders started out in our world..but in Electric Twister Acid Test at around 3:40 (not quite exact) Wade is makeing reference to Watching The Wizard of Oz as in the movie and mentions the poison popies. I could be mistaken but I'm almost certain that in our world the part about the popies was only in the book so from this I surmise that they must be from a world where that detail made it into the movie and therefore not from our own.

At the very end when Redd, Corey Feldman's character, tells Quinn and the gang to go - Jerry and Corey totally do the 'give me some skin' thing from Stand By Me! That was awesome!

I used to watch Sliders when I was a younger and loved it. But now that I am an adult and rewatching it I find myself getting super annoyed at their stupidity. I mean come on people, for a group of 4 with 2 geniuses they lack a butt load of common sense. The professor is such an a--hole and Wade and Quinn are always sticking their noses in something causing trouble. Rembrandt isn't as bad unless a women is throwing him a piece, but he suffers from delusions that he is a superstar (which occasionally causes him trouble). The premise of the show is great, but writing could have been a whole lot better. I could think of tons of great story lines they could have used. I mean come one people, infinite worlds mean anything goes. It sucks when a memory from the past is revisited and shot to sh-t. Not saying I will stop watching but Im a little disappointed....

Why would they sneak into the barn and steal food rather than just knock on the door, especially after seeing the guy in the stocks for raiding?

Lately the episodes are seeming more early Star Trek-ish, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
