Enjoyed the show, fairly historically accurate; however less "known of" but FAR more notorious for crime, theiving (one would steal your wood pile whilst you slept, and charge you double to buy it back...as supplies were more limited than the ore they were hunting for), and more trade on ANY supply, if ye get my drift woul take a foolish man's fortune before he had time to count it.
If you are into TRUE historical ghost towns, that still are true to size and form (outdoor plumbing and all) Check out Bodie, CA. I would suggest reading the book on it prior to going, and if it is a a family or group event, one person can be the dedicated expert and host. DO plan HOT summer days with LITTLE shade from trees, and FREEZING nights (they really DID steal wood threre), as this IS one of the two coldest places in ca. The trip is definately worth it,,,,,,, a real ghost town....real buildings (a shack to be percise, was sufficient dwelling for a minor.....oh, yes with far enough, but not too far walk for the privy al fresco)
