I first found Astro Boy when I was carelessly rotting my brain out on adult swim at ... oh, probably one or two in the morning a long while ago. I don't remember much about it except for that it was old, had wicked groovy animation, was in black and white, and was ridiculously adorable.
Then a few days ago, my friends and I went to see the movie ( it was really awesome and, of course, adorable [ even though Astro did not have long eyelashes { such a shame! } ] ) and it made me sort of want to watch the old TV show again so I could maybe get some sort of background on the movie. After all, the only thing I remember from the show was a circus. Yes. A circus.
It makes me weep tears of sorrowful sorrow to not be able to find an English dub of the black and white version, but I'm very thankful that there's a hearty collection of the newer series ( and look at that! Super long eyelashes! EEEE! ).
If anybody knows where the classic b&w episodes are, I will give you a million hugs and kisses and shower you with whatever it is you want to be showered in. Like roses. And lamps. And stuff.

I like the animmation style of this version of Astro Boy. In some way, watching this series reminds a little like the animation style used in Megaman 8. Both Megaman and Astro Boy were both created by a scientist for a family purpose who then soon becomes the world's hero. Though I'm sure the Megaman idea was taken from Astro Boy, so I see a little resemblance. The Stories and adventures that Astro Boy goes through are well told too.
