I don't know about this situation but as a professional driver, not an ice road trucker I can tell you that it happens. Could be noise in the cab, could be bad directions, could be inattentiveness or tiredness, , could be bad traffic and not being able to get to an exit in time, could be rush hour traffic and not knowing the road, could be any number of things. I've missed turns, gotten lost, gotten turned around more times that I can remember. All of the above contributed. A big truck can't just stop on a dime or slide into traffic like a four wheeler can
If I had to bet I'd put it down to fatique. The cold, the conditions and the way these drivers run has to take a toll. I know that I've done some pretty stupid things because of fatigue and I was no where NEAR as tired as these drivers were and are.
. I doubt what I just outlined would have any real bearing on this show but as for normal situations for those us who drive for a living, well, there are a million and one reasons to get lost or turned around. I have probably done most of them. L I can't imagine what it would be like to be driving on ice on a cloudy day with blowing snow pulling an ackward and, frankly, light load. It would be, I would think, one color all around and it would be easy, I would think, to miss a turn.
I have no idea about filming and what that sort of distraction would do. It probably has to make a contribution.
