Rey was actually being very honest in his interview. One reason for wearing the mask is that he is NOT a good looking guy. Same reason why Sting always wore face paint. Years ago, Rey lost a match in which he was "forced" to stop wearing a mask. He went without a mask for a few months. He looks kind of like Richard Simmons would look if Richard had almost no hair at all. I think the reason Rey doesn't look so good is that he has sad looking eyes, and a receding hairline. His face is kind of child-like. He seems like a genuinely nice fellow though.
