As a Chinese/Italian American I grew up with a GREAT understanding and love of history. On this point in particular, my Chinese grandfather recounted many incidents that he experienced at the hands of Japanese. My grandfather was a child about 8 at the time, he witnessed the beatings, the kidnappings, saw rapings take place in public, and of course the murdering of groups of Chinese. Because he was just a small boy he couldn't do very much in stopping any of this. Instead he was able to acquire a pistol or grenade (on occasion) and least harrass them whenever he could then RUN AWAY and hide. He obviously made it out alive and educated himself, attaining several Ph. D's in biology and chemistry. Later he become a college proffessor.
The second stab felt by the Chinese was the serious lack of an Allied Inquiry and Trial of the Japanese for their atrocities. The Germans got the boot (though in my book not enough where punished). Where are the war crimes for the Japanese? Where are the movies, news reels, footage, public awareness for the Japanese Rape of Nanking? Growing up the Holocaust was well known. The Rape of Nanking? Got swept under the rug, it seems. Germany acknowledges the Holocaust took place, their leaders or those found guilty were hunted (still hunted in some cases), tried, convicted, and put to death. Justice. Where is the Justice for the Chinese? The Japanese government actually DOESN'T acknowledge the Rape of Nanking happened!!! They say, "it's made up by the Chinese?" Funny, some people out there believe that the Holocaust didn't happen...but they were the minority. The majority felt the evidence was VERY conclusive. Where is the MAJORITY for the Chinese?
Events like these have happened throughout history...committed by almost every nation on Earth. What separates the "Decent" nations from the "Vile" is accepting responsiblity and the consequences of the those actions. The Japanese STILL have not done any of these things.
The Rape of Nanking, the Holocaust, the exterminations that took place and still take place in Africa, the American Indians, the Middle Easts Jihad and the Crusades (both are guilty in their "regilous" pursuits), the Communists in both Russia/China, and the ALL the other systematic killings, rapes, and tortures of different races, sexes, religions should be made public, and NEVER FORGOTTEN. They should be showed in documentaries (such as this one) and aired on the their respected anniversaries for the WHOLE world to wittness and REMEMBER that EVIL is just a doorstep away. And that we must GUARD against it, FIGHT against it, and PURGE it from our world.
I can dream can't I?
