I saw the movie "Talk To Me" with Don Chedele , portraying Petey Greene, of Washington D.C., and became intriegued with the real person. I was so happy to see that PBS had done this piece on Petey Greene.
I never knew anything about this great man until I saw the movie, because I grew up in Detroit. Petey Greene was a champion for D.C. with an unlimited love for the city and it's people. He was the "Voice of the black community" , and it's home grown Prince.
I admired the way he stayed "true to the game", and would not compromise his integrity for anyone. I was moved by his sensitivity when he was given heartfelt thanks, and praise from Vice President Hubert Humphery. Under all the flash, and trash talk, there was a honest, humble heart within this man. That is why I say he was a great man. He shared his whole self with his beloved people, and they in turn showered him with love.
One thing is for sure, he will never be forgotten, but will always be missed. R.I.P Petey Greene.
