To me, the best part the whole move... was seeing the difference good teachers can make in a community. Seeing the students feel empowered was beautiful! I was a victim of the L.A. School System, and, went to school near Compton. Teachers who treat their students with the amount of respect I saw in this film, are few and far-between. The average public shool teacher in L.A. is authoritative, (often to an abusive sociopathic level), and, apathetic. Teachers of such high quality could easily find more lucrative employment, in much safer nieghborhoods; obviously they are committed to making a difference, and teach out of love.
I found it inspiring everytime I saw the children treated like human beings; and when, they responded in kind.... which was pretty much the whole thing. This was a love story, not a romantic love story; this was a true story of pure love.

Great documentary!!! It was real from the beginning to the end. I performed in Our Town last year when I was in College and it can easily become a boring play. I'm proud these kids owned it as well as connected with it! Again great film!

I never heard of Compton, and this was just a great group of kids. It was interesting to contrast the basketball stars to these kids, especially the youngster who would be drafted into the NBA right out of high school. You just realized how much power that basketball program must have for that school. That's a really big deal, really, really big deal. That young man was bound for wealth and bigtime sports glamor (at least, a taste of it). Which made this group of ordinary kids that much more compelling. BTW, the drama coach was an extraordinarily attractive young woman, all the more-so the way she persevered for these kids even if she drove them nuts occasionally. One doesn't realize what astonishingly attractive and competent persons can be found in seemingly the least likely places. I admire her for dedicating herself to these young adults. One could imagine her holding her own in a boardroom, or wiping out Palin in a debate.

You are going to suffer with these young people...Long hours working with their minds and hearts.They want to turn it off, you will want to turn it off.This is the way school plays really happen.Nobody believes in anything...
until you make yourself believe.
