Overall I found the film enjoyable and interesting, it was definitely a nice introductory lesson to Brit-pop. It quite obviously skims the surface--clearly since I'm not very familiar with a lot of the history behind the movement besides having heard a surprising amount of the songs included here.A lot of other reviewers are complaining about how self-indulgent a lot of the people in this film are, and I have to agree, but I think that's what adds to the magic of it. This was not intended as an accurate education about brit-pop. If they were to do that, they would have a much wider array of sources with differing opinions of its import as well as a narrator to tie it all together. But clearly this was supposed to be a close portraiture of the people who participated in the movement, and it seems that one of their defining characteristics was narcissism.I thought overall the film was quite beautifully crafted. It had a nice variety of shots, and a great intercut of stock footage with interview material. And I liked that there was no narrator telling us how to interpret these things, but rather a camera set dead-on the musicians allowing them to talk and us to decide for ourselves. The only thing that really bothered me was the presence of two Radiohead songs without a single mention of Radiohead. It got me wondering about their role in this whole Brit-pop movement, especially when I take in consideration their continued popularity. But I guess that's good incentive to keep researching the matter outside of this film.Overall a good experience.
