I watched the episode 'Double Helix' and this one.....I like this storyline and the ending. Great Episode!

The corridor walls of the ship look similar to the corridor walls of a race of beings on Stargate: SG-1 known as the Tok'ra, which is interesting because William deVry played a Tok'ra operative named Aldwin on several episodes of that series, both series were produced by the same people.

It was already established in the episode you referenced "Double Helix" that Ron Rifkin's character was dying and that it was an hereditary disease Rifkin's character being Reynolds' character's father his character had the same hereditary disease, and the alien ship detected this and removed them as if they were a virus. If you recall the students who were chosen, had to almost be medically flawless it's why they were asked about their medical history, it also showed the arrogance and hypocrisy of the Rifkin character, based on his characters own protocols for acceptance, he would not have qualified to go on the journey, it had nothing to do with a contract, Reynolds had made two other previous appearances in this series.

As for nudity the first 5 seasons of "The Outer Limits" was on Showtime and they required a certain amount of nudity in their shows. The syndicated U.S. broadcast version of this episode did not show any nudity.

This is a continuation of Season 3 Episode 12: Double Helix. That episode was engaging, insightful, and enjoyable. Origin of Species, however, was a baseless, hollow shell compared to its prequel.
It seemed as though the writer's got hung up on showing nudity, and didn't think about anything past that. That's probably why the only serious actors (Rifkin and Reynolds) obviously didn't want to be associated with this episode any more than contractually required. The entire episode is as dull and grey as the walls of the set. Poor acting, poor writing, bad direction; it seems like they extended a 30-second ending into an hour-long show.
I really enjoyed The Outer Limits overall, but this episode was awful. If some 13-year-old is tired of looking at the bras in his mom's Sears catalog, he might be entertained by The Origin of Species. Anyone more mature than that certainly won't be.

I know the the executive producers all eventually go onto work on all the Stargate television projects, but the similarities of the ancient race, and The Ancients on the Stargate series have some what interesting parallels to their stories. See 5 other replies
