It is a great sadness, when even now, mankind must fear the very government they vote for, the very government they depend on, the very government they take pride in.

I have to disagree to an extent. In the case the episode depicts, I do believe an individual should have the right to not be a brood mare for the human race. That is slavery.
However, in war as Ruttiger brought up...If it comes between killing a few civilians because they are too near a target and a nuclear bomb being dropped on a city if that target isn't destroyed, I'd choose the lesser of two evils, a.k.a. "the greater good."

Seeing the underground organization at the end was really interesting. I love the darkness of OL, but im glad this one ended on a bright note.

This was a fantastic episode. Cast and script were good but I have to say of all the OL directors Azzopardi's work is my favorite. His episodes are like feature films even on the seemingly small budget this show probably has to work with. Producers Wright and Glassner also employed him in directing some of the best Stargate eposodes. Hope you're out there making some fine pictures somewhere, Azzopardi. Cheers.

The best Outer Limits episode is the one we are all living in . Watch out for the corporate monsters who feed on your information while they charge you for watching TV.

Further quick thought: Those who say "The greater good for a society is never more important than a person's personal rights and freedoms" seem like they have to be pacificists. Innocents are killed in every war; e.g., by bombs going astray. If no amount of good can justify this, then war is never justified. Maybe that's fine but it is rather extreme.

Or is there some reason why the right to life of German children in 1943 was less important than this couple's right to their baby?

Outer limits episodes, do have an interisting messeges, and this one is brings idea of politics; the reality of the mater is that a lot politicians love to cover their @ss, and to "veto" them out is quite complex process, an example:

1.Before the issue arose so called "authority on the issue" or "head/leader/chairman" claims there are not enough evidence and that it is not conclusive, however refuses to do further tests.

2. Once the accident happens, and clearly it was the "head/leader/chairman" fault he will do the following:
(a.) Blame someone else or
(b.) claim that "it does not matter who is responsible but the issue must be dealt with" or (a) will happen. or
(c.) He will be faced with charges and will resign (happens rarely, most of the time its both a and b )

Responsibility fail, lol
