Ridiculously funny; totally non-PC, with racist stereotyping as was the Hollywood norm in 1949, and the filming process was possibly abusive to animals. But still, slapstick-cute. No nudity or cursing, but still, for adults only. (Let us not contribute to the delinquency of a minor--this stuff is not OK for small kids to learn!)
With Bud Abbott as Buzz Johnson, Lou Costello as Stanley Livington, the actual "lion tamer" Clyde Beatty, the actual endangered species trophy hunter Frank Buck; and of "Three Stooges" fame, Shemp Howard as the near-blind gunman Gunner, Joe Besser as the butler/go-fer Harry. Boxers Max Baer, Sr., and Buddy Baer do a goofy scuffle scene with chimps.
I loved the bits with Howard and Besser, as well as some of those with Abbott and Costello.
Good music and silly plot. It's fun to see the old black and white, regardless of the film condition. If you need to watch something very light, this is a good bet.
