This could have just been a good stage play. The acting was like what you would see in a typical chitlin' circuit play. Low budget doesn't have to be low quality. Some low budget Christian movies like "Facing the Giants" are actually very good. I could connect with the characters, really understand the message and was often moved to tears. In this movie, the characters were very flat, stereotypical and predictable. The acting was so bad, you couldn't really connect emotionally to their story. If I were not a Christian, this movie wouldn't win me to Christ. You kind of have to already be a Christian to understand the message they were trying to convey. Most of the positive comments on here come from Christians who already understand the truth about God's grace and they are trying to translate that in their comments. If you have to translate this movie's message to people, then it is ineffective.
The sermons did not add anything to the movie. The story of the two women is what they should have focused on. People go to movies not to hear preaching, but to hear a story. You can go to any church and get a sermon about grace; it was not needed in this movie.
I didn't really get the focus on the cop's attitude toward criminals. It just played out like a venting session. She was a flat character that never changed throughout the movie. So boring. They represented police officers like incompetent clowns which would be ok for a comedy, but was not a fit for this film. While I'm on comedy, none of the jokes or comedic references were funny. I really hate it when these films attempt to insert some comedy by including a flaming gay character. I mean really? Come on. Use some creativity and stop feeding into the stereotypes. So many filmmakers use gay characters today like they used black slave/servant characters back in the day for coonery buffoonery purposes.
I was also really disappointed with the lack of "taste" in this film. The woman who was about to get married had absolutely no bra on. I know it was low budget, but I'm sure someone could have afforded to buy a bra for her. She had high beams and they were flopping all over the place during her little tantrum. It was just horrible. Also, the fact that she and her boyfriend were living together was completely irrelevant to the storyline. They just added controversy for the sake of adding it. On top of that, they were on the church board. I'm sorry, but if you're trying to "keep it holy" you don't do it by shacking up with your boyfriend or girlfriend. If they are dating, they are more than just "flatmates." If you need to save money, get roommates of the same sex. They make it seem like old lady was just being ridiculous and not with the times which made me so upset. I'm a young person. I and several other Christians my age do not think shacking up is acceptable. Besides, I'm sure that if she is coming to church with her knockers all flopping around like that, she ain't keep it holy at home.
I could go on and on... The message was a good one, if you could find it in the midst of all the distractions in this movie. Like I said before, Christians can try to pick it out, but I would definitely not use it for evangelism purposes and I certainly would not show this in my church.
